Zabel Yesayan T-Shirt

$ 26.00

The only woman to be arrested during the targeting of intellectuals on April 24, 1915, novelist Zabel Yesayan escaped deportation from her native city of Constantinople, eventually making her way to Soviet Armenia. Yesayan was a gifted writer who wrote for French and Armenian magazines, wrote short stories and published several books where she detailed the Armenian experience. When she died in mysterious circumstances during Stalin's purges, her story was lost in the annals of Armenian history. But her recent emergence as a symbolic Armenian feminist icon has brought her out of the margins and into the consciousness of a global Armenian diaspora.

20% of profits on this Zabel tee will be going directly to the Women's Support Center in Yerevan, Armenia, an organization which runs one of a handful of women's shelters in the entire country for women fleeing violence.
