The famous misquoted version that many Armenians know by heart began in 1982 when a diasporan Armenian created posters with the heavily edited, sanitized text, presumedly to make it more family-friendly. Unfortunately this version leaves out William Saroyan’s true bold and exuberant writing style, which became known as “Saroyanesque.”
